Over the last two years, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has opened new possibilities for generating content such as text, code and images in response to user prompts. This transformative technology has the potential to reshape how process manufacturers analyze data, optimize operations and make critical decisions.
The timing is crucial as the industrial sector faces challenges of being "data rich and information poor," exacerbated by the expansion of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), which brings in a surplus of operational and equipment data. There is now a need for advanced analytics software that incorporates GenAI to empower engineering, operations and management personnel to derive faster and more valuable insights from the growing pool of data, ultimately improving production and business metrics.
The simultaneous emergence of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies offers the potential to uncover more meaningful insights from the increasing data complexity. Despite these advancements, however, many organizations still face challenges in transitioning from raw data to meaningful insights.
