Siemens has released its new Simatic Micro-Drive, a product line with UL- and CE-marked components consisting of the Profidrive Control (PDC) servo drive, a flexible range of motors and connecting cables from product partners, and the technology module (TM) format with servo and stepper drives in 20mm width that can be used in conjunction with distributed or open controllers. This product line offers connectivity to Siemens programmable logic controllers and integration into Siemens automation technology via its TIA portal, as well as smart encoders and one-button tuning, safely limited torque, and communication over ProfiNet using ProfiSafe and ProfiDrive profiles. The PDC servo drive focuses on applications with 100W and 600W units that permit side-by-side rail mounting. They are available in Safe Torque Off (STO) and fail-safe versions. TM units are focused on compactness and safety requirements and are available in 280W rating with hardwired STO functions. In addition to servo, TM units feature new modules to control stepper motors.
